THE PAST…I’m not a communist. I’ve always self-labeled myself more as an anarchist. Karl Marx was wrong. It was never about helping each other. John Forbes Nash was right. It is about the individual. And oftentimes, the individual wins when the group also wins.
Hacky sac is about keeping the sac in the air as a group. Each member of the hacky circle is connected to the other. From the worst hacky sacker to the best, each benefits the most when all do well.
My sense of accomplishment and pride by pulling off 180 degree spin and a lunging toe kick sending the sac in a perfect arch back into the center of the circle to be kept alive is still one of my most tangible experiences. This sensation I could feel in my core. The rush of blood and sense of power that comes from the unbridled exhibitionism of skill gave me a sense of purpose.
For Joe Waschley, AKA "Joe Duck", hacky sac was a fun endeavor which suited his disposition. For me, it was something more. It was a political statement. It was a sense of identity. Classes were bullshit. Hacky sac was the real deal.
