THE PAST…We had three boys in our family. My older brother Mark is exactly one year and five days older than me. My younger brother Jeff is maybe four or five years younger? Mark always wanted to be lawyer and he is. Jeff is a critical care pediatrics physician in Detroit. My little sister Kasey is the youngest. She is the only person in the universe who had my dad’s number from the day she was born right up and through now. In a contest, It’s a lay down. Dad loses. Kasey wins. End of story.
Kasey is tough. The youngest girl in a male dominated household. Not a male dominated household in the sense of sports. We didn’t stand in the backyard playing football and baseball and such. My mom is not exactly a girly girl. She’s tough. Kasey was and is tougher than all them. She was a tomboy with an aptitude for survival. Strike that. Kasey did not survive, she thrived.
I didn’t learn much about girls at home. I don’t remember my dad ever mentioning them. I didn’t hang around with girls. I didn’t have any friends who were girls. When it came to girls, I might as well have been swimming in an exhibition meet.
