Capitalism

I used to think that capitalism was a petty distraction from what is important. I saw other people around me pursuing petty things at significant sacrifice to themselves, their families and their friends. I couldn’t fathom what would drive them to such madness.

I will admit it. I used to despise capitalism. What I now realize is that I despised the current brand of capitalism that I saw festering around me. What I now realize is that what I do every day is capitalism in a truer form. I have no problem being paid value for value provided. I understand and appreciate the gift that I have and putting a price on that gift, which is charged to the client. My motives however are not to make as much money as I can. I am willing to live by whatever money my talents provide. The difference between me and so many attorneys is the difference between motives. My motive is to provide quality and value. I understand and appreciate that capitalism spits financial reward out the back end of that proposition. But, I also expect to live in a system where others who do not provide such value do not go rewarded. Why when I look around me do I see success closed in such un-capitalistic motives?

I look forward to living, working and playing where talent rules. I look forward to a system where power is driven by talent, not wealth. I know that I will see the day when our American style capitalism is wealth as a reward for talent more than cunning, deception, ear mongering and other less desirable traits.
