An Economy Built On the Power of Ideas…

When I founded this firm four years ago, I quickly gravitated towards specialization in idea protection.  Our firm is focused on protecting and extending the ideas of our clients in a global online world.  Previously, the label would have been “intellectual property.”  But that term doesn’t cover where I believe America is headed.

As we begin to lose manufacturing jobs and become uncompetitive in markets which could exploit cheap labor, many people speculated that America would become an economy of ideas.  We would be the ones to innovate, to start companies built on the foundation of a great idea and watch them grow into companies like Yahoo, Google, Type Pad, Basecamp, Digg, LinkedIn, etc. etc. etc.  At no point have I ever believed that we would become an economy built on the strength of ideas, start-up companies and innovation than I do now after Tuesday night’s election.  While most people focus on the specific policies of Democrats versus Republicans, I tend to focus on themes and trends which give me great hope that we will continue to innovate on the experiment that is Capitalism.

  • A country less tied to tradition and more open to new ideas and innovation.
  • The fact that information about anything is available to anyone at any time on the internet, allowing for people to make informed decisions based on intelligence, rather than blind adherence to some amorphous principle.
  • The fact that a candidacy built on an idea can overrun the country; that the power of an idea spread across a large number of people is far more powerful than the actions of any single person.
  • The country is willing to enter new territory and try new things which have never been explored before and that don’t equally fit within the definitions of “socialism”  “liberalism” or other easy labels meant to scare people.
