When I founded this firm four years ago, I quickly gravitated towards specialization in idea protection. Our firm is focused on protecting and extending the ideas of our clients in a global online world. Previously, the label would have been “intellectual property.” But that term doesn’t cover where I believe America is headed.
As we begin to lose manufacturing jobs and become uncompetitive in markets which could exploit cheap labor, many people speculated that America would become an economy of ideas. We would be the ones to innovate, to start companies built on the foundation of a great idea and watch them grow into companies like Yahoo, Google, Type Pad, Basecamp, Digg, LinkedIn, etc. etc. etc. At no point have I ever believed that we would become an economy built on the strength of ideas, start-up companies and innovation than I do now after Tuesday night’s election. While most people focus on the specific policies of Democrats versus Republicans, I tend to focus on themes and trends which give me great hope that we will continue to innovate on the experiment that is Capitalism.
